САМОЕ БОЛЬШОЕ ПРОСТОЕ ЧИСЛО 8.IX.2014 @ “СТРЕЛКА”

I’m not exactly a fan of their original sound of melodeclamation over droning noises. I got into them only when they’ve started oiling their tracks with actual music. (Well, even while already listening to 2H Company i got into СБПЧ only after Живи хорошо, of course) Some of the more morbid and evil tracks do fine in the old style, but the remake of Маленькие человечки is just so much better narratively than the original.

The thing is, they’ve never stopped moving in that direction, and i find their current sound kind of boring. They do some light hipsterock with electric influences. From being butt of “music for evil people” jokes they went to be basically pop+.

The show was in the middle of Moscow under open air, and the sound was fine. They’ve played old and new material, and none of the things i like sounded remotely how i like. It’s not like i disliked it, i’m more of just didn’t care. The whole thing wasn’t really memorable.

The Marshall Mathers LP

In my childhood i heard him on MTV and on radio, but never cared either way until he dropped Without Me with the great flow and with the great video. After that i starteв to recognizing him, and i loved his comedic and aggressive stuff. I bought The Eminem Show so that album is the one i'm most familiar with. I've listened to a lot of his songs before Encore, but i think i've never spent time listening to The Marshall Mathers LP deliberately. Or, judging by me remembering every skit, i just didn't reflect on the tracks and forgot all of the weaker ones.
In my childhood his comedy and cartoony sound effects were appealing to me. I didn't mind the singing and didn't notice drugs references.

I used to love these skits, but now i delete them after the first listen and really dislike when they are glued to the audio files. We were trying to memorize the PSA with our limited knowledge of english.

Kill You starts with an interesting intro, and goes into okay rap. And then he starts to poorly sing. And his singing is pretty poor. Blood, guts, guns, cuts, Knives, lives, wives, nuns, sluts Слеп, глуп, туп, скуп, груб, рэп, Всё вслух. Вздох, всхлип. Ты нет, а он смог. Просто друг. Врешь! От слез тушь. You better kill me, I'ma be another rapper dead For poppin' off at the mouth with shit I shouldn't have said — this one's really good. ...to say the same things tweece. Twice, whatever... now that is embarrassing.
The lyrics mostly have strong rhymes, but the subject is juvenile and weak. All of it is read in an okay manner over repetitive primitive boring beat. Eminem's flow, while not really good, is the only thing which elevates this track from abyss of dullness. And then it ends on i love you ladies; not here nor there.

You may love Eminem, but you know that Stan is so big only because of Dido. But not to diminish the production quality of this track, the original song ends on 1:11 and devolves into a boring sappy forgettable drab. Thank You chorus is weak, the bridge turns the amazing music into something generic.
Despite the original optimistic message, in the audio version the chorus could be interpreted as obsessive. Even if the video attributes it to the girlfriend (poorly) played by Dido. (Eminem confirmed that on Rap Genius ~2020) You ruined it now, I hope you can't sleep and you dream about it And when you dream I hope you can't sleep and you scream about it — oh come on, it was such a perfect text and here is the rhyme with itself. And it was bugging me since the first time i've heard it.
Stan lyrics are so strong the track deserves to be as popular with the general public as with core audience. The subject matter is interesting and this epistolary novel is a really powerful piece of art.
Of course it had a ton of parodies, but my favourites are these two exceptionally written tracks: Васильки and Житие Мое.

Who Knew a track talking about self-obvious truisms, which to this day are not obvious to alarmists. And not even in the right key. It has dull flow, minimalist repetitive non-music and when they're pissed at a tea-/-cher? is embarassing. Why he namedrops Reeves? Couldn't find a rhyme? The bad half-singing on the chorus is irritating too.

Way I Am has really aggressive flow and nice music with bells. I never noticed drugs reference in the first verse, and once it finishes filler word-salad the lyrics tackle thу track's topic from a new angle. The most meanest MC on this... on this Earth — oof, it doesn't sound bad but paying attention this mismatching line length looks half-posteriored. I'll smile in the courtroom and buy you a wardrobe — strong line. Radio won't even play my jam — ironically radio is over-saturated with this track for years. Yeah this is a really cool track and you don't notice imperfections until you are looking for them.

The Real Slim Shady a cool bouncy track, but if you pay attention the beat is rather dry and it's the flow which makes it good. Lyrically it's of little substance. At its best it just like the previous one tackles the subject of blame shifting. Things you joke about with your friends inside your livin' room — the state of harmful censorship is rather saddening.
Everytime i hear this song i remember the behind the scenes of VMA 2000 where Eminem promised burritos to everyone and didn't deliver.

Remember Me? is an interesting, but not really user-friendly. It can start grating on repeated listening, and the lyrics aren't of note.

I’m Back i think i liked it in my childhood, but now that bad singing is really irritating. The rhyming has good moments, but i really don't care for it as a whole.

Marshall Mathers this one i dislike severely. So much terrible singing. No wonder i didn't remember it exists. Just like Drug Ballad. That has bad singing and poor composition too. Amityville is an okay track, most of which is the earwormy chorus. Bitch Please II is an okay ensemble track with a nice chorus.

Kim music reminds me of that rap song using Kashmir. It's a pretty bad track with bad singing on the chorus. No one cares about your fame-revenge on your ex. Also it's terribly long and have a half-minute-long excessive garbage in a middle of the album.

I liked Under the Influence in my childhood but i dunno now. It has too much bad parts. Lettin' the record skip — it's not just a weak joke, they do it three times, and add the long whirl sound breaking the flow of the song.

Criminal starts with dull intro, goes into mediocre first verse and then actually resolves into a pretty good chorus. Second verse is more or less fine, and then the track is interrupted with a stupid skit. Third verse is pretty mediocre too. It will be a much better track if you manually cut out the skit and the intro. In ideal world production would be better too.
Once again he brags about he can or can't say. And once again he talks about being "white". At the time it did look cool, that an underdog won the game. First time he didn't got an award and it was Kanye instead, i even was displeased (just like when White Stripes took it instead of Metallica). Looking back it seems muddy, that all awards in an african genre were given to a "white" guy for so long. Like, one thing is him deservingly getting awards, the other is for other people celebrating it as a victory of a "white" underdog. (Though all of the modern genres were created by africans anyway.)

The Kids is just garbage. It references and parodies South Park, the music is weak, and i wouldn't listen to it in any way.

Original Way I Am has fine, but not perfect music. It's dry and sounds too synthetic. Danny Lohner's remix replaces it with something harder. It is really good on chorus but repetitive on verses and looses keyboard and bells. New vocals from Marilyn Manson for chorus are cool, not only how it ties back to the lyrics but the performance.
Though, both of them played on my radio constantly.

So, this album is considered to be one of the best, and the best one by Eminem. Well, it does contain several of his best tracks, but it's not good as an album. Not only it also have not just mediocre, but really bad tracks, it also is tonally all over the place. From stupid Kill you it goes into dramatic and serious Stan. From aggressive The Way I Am it goes into childish and bounce The Real Slim Shady. After listening to it for a week and before writing this i actually started to skip the worst tracks.
Despite different narratives, the lyrics often talk about fame, censorship, blame-shifting and other performers. How many times did he mention NSYNC? First time paying attention to all the lyrics i'm amazed how repetitive the songs are. Good thing music tracks are not novels and lyrics aren't that important.
Albums were already outdated anyway, in 2000 internet already was a thing. And then MP3-discographies wiped out single albums from consumer space and cornered it into melomaniac circle of collectors. By 2005 even my 3rd world started to be widely covered with internet.

The Marshall Mathers LP 2

After falling of the face of the earth Eminem returns with an album named like a sequel to his most well-received one. And it even has a lot of hype around it.

Well, i don't buy it. I don't like anything from the album. Eminem sounds like old creaky grandpa, his new voice really grinds my gears. And while the music tries to be improvement over The Marshall Mathers LP it's more often than not just irritating. Eminem doesn't use good flow at all, he just reads some ditties.

The Marshall Mathers LP had singing and i disliked that. Well, damn, The Marshall Mathers LP 2 is all singing. And not just from Eminem, it features a ton of some washout singers, almost on every track. So obviously considering just how terrible Eminem at singing, all parts without Eminem end up being the least terrible.

Bad Guy has terrible squeaking beat which already gets on my nerves. And then it's twice as long as an average track, it goes for damn seven minutes. The actual production on this track falls apart into several separate layers. Some parts of the music are directly dissonant with the rapping and the message. All voices sound separate. The chorus is garbage. The track is supposed to be angry like The Way I Am and it has this whining for grannies. The flow is absent — just some dude slowly mumbling nonsense. In some parts the flow is something between a chicken's clucking and a donkey's hee-haw, symbolically representing an abomination.
And to think I used to think you was the shit, bitch To think it was you at one time I worshipped, shit Think you can hurt people and just keep getting away with it? Not this time, you better go and get the sewing kit, bitch! Finish this stitch, so you can reap what you sew, nitwit
Thought some time would pass and I'd forget it? Forget it! — ugh, what a rhyme scheme. Like you picked an axe up and swung — oh yes, using a sound effect to make unfitting line fit. And hey, here's a sequel to my Mathers LP just to try to get people to buy — pointing out flaws is not an excuse for intentionally making them. Near the end this sequel to Stan written with his little brother as a first person protagonist goes into different music with distorted voice echo.

Parking Lot (Skit) continues that part from Criminal, this pointless crap goes for a whole minute. Yes, what a great thing to have after the first super-cereal pretentious track full of excuses.

Rhyme or Reason samples Time Of The Season which already is really gimmicky. But there it was at least used sparingly. Here, the entire thing is made of that. And there's so much Eminem's terrible singing it's torture. Back with the Yoda of rap — no, no no, don't! Oh shit, please stop. Puke Skywalker — ugh.
Тo one cares for your daddy issues, Cleanin' Out My Closet isn't good because of the lyrics, but because it has good flow, the singing is used properly and it has good music. Damn i wish i was listening to The Eminem Show, the best Eminem album, instead of this.

So Much Better is garbage. So much terrible singing.

Survival chorus is okay. Maybe even the flow is okay, if not for that raspy voice. 'Cause I just shitted on the mic and I like gettin' cut — ugh. I just sneeze, but I just go achoo then a-chieve! — ugh.

Legacy opens up with something which could be a real, much better track. Tho chorus is mixed really dry, the singer sounds as if she was recorded on a headset. Well, and Eminem's two verses too. On the third, instead, it's hiss of fried bacon.

Asshole has terrible music.

Berzerk has bad effects and bad singing on chorus. Second verse is just scat-garbage. Half of the third verse is more bad singing. The whole thing is just irritating.

Rap God is not a good track. It's Eminem's spelling bee showcase you definitely will show to your mom and all the friends, but won't listen more than once a year. The music is just bad, the flow is absent. This whole thing is a limerick with audio-gimmicks, not a rap-song. Second verse with it's boy-boy-boy scheme sounds weak.
Condensing a ton of words into one track doesn't mean you don't have to make it good and have real flow.

Brainless has tolerable music, but a ton more stupid singing.

Stronger Than I Was is disgustingly bad, pure torture. He just sing-songs the whole time. With how often he mentioned NSYNC on The Marshall Mathers LP, he goes and makes this shite. This is exactly like one of their tracks, but much, much worse. Abysmal.

The Monster is a mediocre pop-song, which Eminem has ruined with his guest appearance. His tired delivery and raspy voice saps the energy from this singer, and on the last choruses he even starts to sing. Yodel-odel-ay-hee-hoo! — ugh.

So Far... uses the sample so much it makes it irritating. And it has a lot of bad singing. *burp* swag — ugh. I love my city, but you pushed me to the limit—what a pity! — ugh, stupid audio gimmicks.

Love Game is garbage with singing.

Headlights is a singy whiny track about mommy issues.

Evil Twin is dull six-minutes long monstrosity. Eminem does voices and it's embarrassing. When they were on flow they didn't irritate as hard as when they are in a spoken ditty. Don't try to fix me, I'm broke, so I don't work So are you, but you're broke ‘cause you don't work — ugh, what a rhyme.

Avantfest 2013

Платная сцена:
Звук сносный, однако были технические ошибки, вроде самогенерации. Посетителями предсказуемо были хипстеры всех мастей и страшных расцветок с очень плохим вкусом в одежде. Бомж в носках без пяток и мысков, со сквозным отверстием на штанах между ног спереди и огромной дыркой на заднице, увлечённо в течение часа читавший клочок бумаги среди них абсолютно не выделялся из толпы. Да и то - если бы он не встал размяться, мы бы так и не поняли что это бомж.

Ёлочные игрушки.
Ёлочные игрушки отыграли свой классический IDM без каких-либо запоминающихся событий, посетителей, на этом этапе, мы насчитали что-то около ста десяти человек.

MAXIXE
Довольно интересная группа в музыкальном плане, но ничего особого не показали.

CocoRosie
Группа не особо понимает в составлении композиций, такое ощущение что они выбрали просто все самые хипстерские элементы и просто скидывают их в одну кучу. Тут и северный акцент и интонации, популяризованные Бьёрк и другими, и тяжёлые синтетические ударные, и глубокий звук электротехно, и попытки милого и пафосно-проникновенного женских вокалов, неудачные, и очень плохой битбокс, как технически, так и с точки зрения самой "мелодии". Напоминает одноврмеменно Florence + The Machine для бедных, Archive, Daft Punk, Theodor Bastard, Enya, Era, Sissel и прочих, даже мысли о том что Витас поёт лучше посещали. Но самое печальное что именно к их выступлению набилось довольно много народу, очень интенсивно аплодирующих этой очень смешной группе.

АукцЫон 13.04.2013 @ Gogol

Клуб не изменился, звук настроен всё так же хорошо.

За два часа предсказуемо поздний АукцЫон отыграл с трудом две с половиной песни, остальной десяток композиций представлял из себя лютейший "прогрессив прог" слабо отличимый друг от друга. Тоже, конечно, неплохо, но раннее и среднее творчество группы мне нравится намного больше.
Да и альбомов они начиная с позднего периода не выпускают - а зачем? Ведь когда играешь "прогрессив прог" можно просто собраться группой и играть всё что нравится, всё равно никто не заметит. Да и заучивать ничего не нужно - просто берёшь и играешь.

Diablo Swing Orchestra 22.02.2013 @ Москва HALL

Группа, несмотря на отсутствие какого-либо представления, сыграла очень хорошо. Вокальные партии были просто великолепны. В зале как обычно комфортный уровень звука, и как обычно завышенный уровень освещения. Они явно очень им гордятся, раз тыкают его в лицо посетителей как порно актёр свой огромный член в лицо напарнице. Организация как всегда хорошая - тех, кому пришлось стоять небольшую очередь на улице и не хватило мест в гардеробе, на выход пустили впереди остальных. Учитывая что на сцене опять присутствовала водка - складывается впечатление что за этим стоят именно организаторы.

Red Snapper 17.02.2013 @ Москва HALL

Как и на Atari Teenage Riot зал использовал максимум светотехники, к тому же за сценой и на стене теперь огромные мониторы. Никакого особого представления не было, группа просто играла музыку, да пару раз опрокинула по рюмке водки. Некоторые композиции музыканты растягивали и наполняли импровизациями, что начинало напоминать Másfél.

Звук в зале был похуже чем в прошлый раз - низкие частоты слегка жужжали.

Fiddler on the Roof (1971)

Отличный мьюзикл, в котором благодаря влиянию еврейской фольклорной музыке даже драматические моменты не превращаются в беспросветное уныние. В некоторых мелодиях конечно заметно влияние хавы нагилы или семь сорок, но в целом они оригинальные и кроме того очень хорошо переплетаются с еврейскими народными мотивами.

В фильме удачно сочетаются хороший сюжет, интересные персонажи (особенно забавен революционер с библией) и актёры их играющие, в сумме это даёт очень реалистичное и живое кино. Немного напрягает большая длительность, но размах картины этого требует, кроме того лишних или ненужных сцен в фильме нет. Очень забавная сцена где приезжает специально назначенный царём инспектор по погромам.

Съёмочной группой созданы отличные грим и декорации. Сцена с выдуманным сном смотрится просто великолепно. Однако русский акцент немного раздражает, особенно то, что все имена звучали только в урезанном варианте: не так уж сложно было бы подготовится лучше - несмотря на железный занавес свежих русскоязычных эмигрантов можно было в достатке.

Несмотря на большую, а по тем временам просто огромную, длительность - это один из лучших фильмов по мьюзиклу.

The Tiger Lillies 20.11.12 @ Шестнадцать Тонн

Небольшой клуб с хорошей акустикой. Была очередь в гардероб, начинающаяся на улице, но в остальном организация была хорошая. Несмотря на небольшие размеры было вполне просторно, до тех пор пока не появилась "дивизия особо буйных бульдозеров", которая вытолкала меня метра на четыре, от выбранного места, но потом всё успокоилось.

Группа отыграла хорошо, вокалист отлично исполнял свою роль и постоянно играл с публикой. Единственное странно что он сам не знал текстов песен и постоянно листал телефон с touch-screen. Возможно он конечно был не в лучшем состоянии для выступления, к тому же барабанщик был другой.

Mindless self indulgence 10.11.12 @ Milk

Вполне стандартный клуб на задворках приватизированного завода. Гардероб бесплатный. Во время выступления пол буквально подпрыгивал под напором посетителей.

На сцене творился ожидаемый дичайший, например, ад. Звук был предсказуемо громкий. Впрочем на терпимом уровне. Размахивания членом не было, и вроде даже давно, видимо возраст уже не тот.

Десятилетие издательства «ГΣометрия» 02.12.11 @ Hleb

I don't think I'll ever visit a show to surpass this one. It's a publisher's event so it had a ton of different bands, some are my favourite, some i aware of and some i heard for the first time. I can't say I dislike a single one of them. We had to leave before Moscow metro closes and was still not the end. The whole course cost just 400₱ for so many hours and so many bands.

The place is traditional gemtrified old manufacture or a small factory, any way it was just fine and i can't say anything bad about it.

The only iffy part was when one group? Аук? Was a little late so a guy from куртуазный started to read post-modern poetry and several jerks from the crowd threw plastic cups at him, as if that will bring the band faster.

What did they want wait in silence?

Atari Teenage Riot 23.11.2011 @ К. К. З. "Москва"

Оказывается на концертах кроме характеристики "громко" бывает ещё характеристика "ярко". Вся имеющаяся в наличии светотехника работала на полную мощность и максимально старалась ослепить публику. Которая, кстати, собралась более разнообразная и менее однородная чем на Matisyahu. Да и звук был не настолько громкий, несмотря на специфику жанра уши восстановились довольно быстро. Персонал в зале работает вежливый и хорошо исполняет обязанности, да и сам зал при неотделанных стенах как-то по-лучше воспринимается.

Несмотря на сильно обновлённый состав звучание группы почти не изменилось, только партии Crack'a переписаны под Kidtronik'a и стали быстрее и словообильнее. В целом концерт прошёл куда бодрее чем Matisyahu, полтара часа, почти без остановок, группа прыгала, орала и каталась на руках.

Сначала меня удивила такая тёплая любовь Empire'a к Гаям Фоксам, но оказалось они давно сотрудничают.

Довольно стандартный прокуреный клуб ещё и с платным гардеробом. Звук тоже вполне стандартный, для того чтоб было громко. Посетителями были стандартное "клубное кисо", немножко дредов и несколько бород с "аэродромами".

Tokio
Обычная манерная клубная группа. Отыграли громко, в остальном всё как всегда - вызвали негодование самим фактом разогрева. Вообще ненависть к разогреву довольно глупая, там же не выбирают Ранеток на разогрев Immortal. А стандартным посетителям клубов всё равно что играет пока громко и модно.

Matisyahu
Оказалось что играть можно ещё громче чем Tokio, к тому же иногда он начинал издавать равномерный звук и его поддерживали оба гитариста, в результате от перегруженных жужжащих колонок начинала слегка кружится голова. Вторая часть выступления была поживей - Мэтью делал beatbox, плавал на руках и вытаскивал посетителей на сцену.
Концертные версии песен наполнены электрогитарами и электронными эффектами, можно даже сказать что сменили жанр с регги на хард-рок даб.

Я как обычно стоял на месте, слушал музыку и думал о своём. Из-за громкости звука изрядно оглох на правое ухо, сравнимо со стрельбой из АК-74М.
