A movie with such heavy handed commentary that it can give you a black eye. It has a little bit originality, but that originality is used for one of the oldest story-lines on earth told in the most safe and generic way.

And that ending is pretty dumb. What, she gonna live in an imaginary world, without a way out, and her mother doesn’t care?

The Hateful Eight

A good punch-line with three hours long set-up.

A great cowboy-like movie, setting the bridges between north and south. With great cast of actors doing great job. But i don't see a reason for a movie to have chapter title cards.

The Passion of the Christ

Considering that today is christmas we decided to celebrate it with all traditional christmas dishes (we could find), christmas music and a christmas movie.



It's a pretty boring pseudo-historical documentary movie. It strives towards ultra-realism, yet it has a lot of supernatural idiocy. Also, side-scenes are useless. PFX colour correction looks weak, especially his eyes.

The Revenant (2015)

Officail russian translation.

With the unrealistic amounts of abuse he is taking, this should be called The Wolverine. And all that during the cold season and with thorough soaking in a river.
This thing is all over the place, and the characters are plain stupid. Riddick’s version is much cooler.

It would be still tolerable, but on top of all that, this is really tiresome to watch. The film depicts deep twilight and the entirety of the screen is covered in severe DoF, blur, lens flare and other film-deficiencies. If you want to have a theatrical experience of this movie take an old brown-grey sheet with icky stains and jiggle it in front of yourself for three hours.

Broforce

Scroll shooter with destructible environment and references to action movie in the form of 32 totally different characters. Game marketed as chaos incarnate, but as usual in actuality it paced much slower and more tactical, since player have to compensate for different characters' abilities and play-styles.

The satire is nice and choice of focus on heroes instead of actors let the game to have several different roles of the same actor from different IP. Also game uses some recent and some obscure characters, due to which it stands above nostalgia monetization like expendables (and expendabros). Though it would be nice to have some characters of Rothrock (Nikita would be nice too) and more asian actors like Li or Chan. Since they already using british Bond and french Leon and Lambert, they don't seem to be tied to 'murica narrative outside of diegesis.

It starts very solid due to good level design, but in the middle interactive narrative is so non-generic the alien, that it turns into comics-level crossover "rocketeer and Raiden versus aliens". Thankfully final chapters go back to generic aesthetics so it returns to normal state. Though last mission is so long that you tied to a chair for couple of hours since there are no saves inside levels.

It works totally fine on UWS UHD surround, but letterbox stylization is not wide enough fot this aspect ratio (as usual). Game looks nice, but shaking screen and a lot of chaos on suicide run is somewhat irritating, due to contradiction to optimal playstyle.

Overall the game is quite fresh and original and not full of memeseses and dumb nostalgia, all references are just for a flavour. Works fine plays fine and offers some new gameplay mechanics.

The Head

I have memories of watching it whole, after the TV run has ended, but i couldn't remember much so i watched it again.

The animation quality looks a lot cheaper and stiffer than i remember, but the artstyle is quite nice. The second season of is mostly useless. It's a mix of some post-modern garbage and some resolutions for the side characters.

While it's not a looker and the second season is mostly filler, it still has a lot of original in it. And the first season story is kind of great.

Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever

This movie was haunting me since the childhood. I saw it in a VHS rental every time i visited it and i wanted to get it because of the mysterious namve and the cover which looks like Equilibrium. And now finally i got to it.

It’s a really medicore 2000s action film with weak cinematography and nothing much else.

I saw chunks of this thing in my adolescence and since IMDB reminded me this exists we decided to watch it properly.

Yeah, it's kinda cooler than i remember. While there's little footage of those robots in the movie, there's enough of other cool practical effects.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

"this time... SHALL BE DIFFERENT!!"
"IT'S NOT DIFFERENT AT ALL!! IS IT, STEVE?!"

This movie is equally retared to any of other Star Wars movies, but also kind of has the worst plot out of them all. Since it's just a pile of rethreading and blatant references it's hard to judge by itself, because by itself it doesn't make any sense. Remember how in the Return of the Jedi they killed the emperor and celebrate afterwards with medals and dances? It never states it explicitly, but it implies that imperial force just mostly surrendered. In the beginning of this movie there even is a yet another new republic. But then, suddenly, the first order forces, which no one believed in existence of, came out of nowhere with enough resources to create third (!) much, much bigger and more expensive death star and even steal Starkiller's name from The force Unleashed for it. Did we miss something? Isn't there supposed to be two to three boring political\economic-thriller movies explaining and exploring all of this? Because it feels just as nonsensically abrupt as Anakin's sudden fall to the dark side in the episode 3. And then the new republic was made to cease to exist. You can say whatever you want about the quality of the episode trilogy, at least story-wise the transition from the republic to the empire was really smooth there.


Filming a movie on 35mm film in 2015 is the most degenerate decision. It looks as if the movie is projected onto a pile of swarming maggots. 35mm was insufficient back then, it already looks abysmal in 1920x1080. Now we are living in the age of commonplace cheap UHD, with some enthusiasts going five to seven thousand pixels wide at least. But conservative retrograds will do anything to stop the progress and will feed you maggots at the speed of 24 spoons per second even in 2015. And since retards are ready to eat anything as long as it has branding, i don't see retrogrades being stopped anytime soon.

I kind of like "don't touch my hand" moment, people shouldn't invade reasonable personal spaces. Also, a bunch of school kids were sound asleep in the middle of the movie. Three hours of nonsence is really long if you are not prepared for it.

In one of Wikipedia dives i discovered that Продавец воздуха exists and wanted to read it for some time. So finally i grabbed a release containing that story. The writer is very famous though, but for other works, a lot of which got movie adaptations.

Борьба в эфире
So it turns out the dude is a rabid tankie. This story's protagonist goes into the future, loiters around a bit mingling with scientology commies of tomorrow. And then suddenly he is invited to invade USA, the last outpost of capitalism, where workers are locked in hive-cities.

Вечный хлеб
This one is a killer. It's a grey goo scenario, but instead of it being aliens or an evil experiment or a weapons going out of control, the creator just wanted to feed the people.

Человек, потерявший лицо
This one is kinda more on point with criticizing USA-brand capitalism and stuff. A circus freak gets a cure, but his life goes only worse from there. It's one of those plastic surgery dramas. But then past the midpoint, it turns into Darkman and is absolutely mad.

Продавец воздуха
So, yeah it's 20s sci-fi and it's vague on details and goofy. But it's fun — one evil genius capitalist conquered the planet by stealing all the air.

The dudes organized an underwater seaweed farm, but nihonese poachers are often stealing weeds. And then they've sent a submarine to attack the farm-house. Don't forget, this is before the second world war.

While it's very 20s sci-fi and the dude is a total tankie, all of these are never as dull as what i read from Ефремов. It's entertaining mad pulp.

Это наверное самое тупое, пустое, безыдейное и безысходное произведение что я видел из японской школы за всю жизнь.
お兄ちゃんのことなんかぜんぜん好きじゃないんだからねっ!! (Oniichan no Koto Nanka Zenzen Suki Janain Dakara ne—!!) был туп, но его хотя бы немного было интересно смотреть и там был фокус и идея. Здесь это просто смесь экскурсионной экспозиции, ракуго (которое похоже на игру слов уровня третьеклассников или древнеегипетского Задорного, первого славяно-арийского ракуго мастера), случайных культурных отсылок с "мемесами" и шуток (уровня\импортированных на) 4chan, который сам по себе "нормалфажная днина" уровня notorious hacker. Но хуже всего что периодически диалоги падают до уровня реальных обсуждений на женских форумах.

Конечно культурная экскурсия не помешает по жизни, и у персонажей довольно часто меняется одежда, вместо одного костюма, но это не может спасти вазу, в которую накидали случайные вещи вроде леденцов от кашля и бывшей в употреблении шрапнели, засыпав это капибарами сверху.

OVA
Это просто ещё одна серия сверх оригинальной длины сезона. Раньше они хотя бы действительно другими были, а сейчас какой смысл называть их "OVA" вместо того, чтобы дать номер серии.

Fortress

Fortress

A 90s sci-fi prison break movie with Lambert set in dystopian 2017 USA where people try to flee to the Canada. And every part of it appeals to me, especially after living through one in the Escape from Butcher Bay.

Growing up with Lambert's movies and his face, this is afaik the first time i heard his real goofy voice. Still not as terrible as Mortensen playing Aragorn and his laughable, weak speech in the third movie, now that was a disappointment after listening to the strong voice of the Рязанцев А.А., who looks like old Jack Nicholson and Jack Black had a fat baby). After discovering that Балабанов re-dubs a ton of his actors, i though, truly, why not match good looking actors with their normal voices with most epic velvet bass voice actors, who usually are fat, bald and have strange shaped heads. That way we can have a perfect character for each role and change voices actors according to the story we try to tell. Lambert's natural voice fits perfectly for the Собибор, according to russian iconography tradition.

Fortress 2

Oh, wow.

While the first movie was a dystopian sci-fi it still kept a serious tone and was down to earth, this one is an all-out action and a sequel in space. And boi is it a fun action. John became such an unbound badass, that he will propel himself in zero gravity, punch a hole in your spaceship and strangle you through the wall, when in space he will hear you diss him.

It lacks the subtlety and coherence of the first one, but it is so frantically action-packed, that it surpasses it and goes directly into my hall of fame.

Simple casual bizzarre game featuring giraffe-snail-worms. It's not something which will blow your mind but it gets point for originality, so it'll help to check any of the games from the series.

Saturn 3

I saw this movie with my dad, probably several times. I probably never knew its name, but i managed to find it sometime after i got the internet. (Still missing several titles, like cyborgs with white blood in a desert, a guy shooting razors cannon at a ghost with matrix-type round shot, a bunch of dudes hunting each other in an empty city, a sci-fi thing where they've found some kind of CGI goosuto in a cave.) It was pretty long ago so i decided to re-watch it and show it to my dawg.

So, it's a really cool movie with practical effects. The plastic models and costumes look brilliant both in space and on robots. It's so much superior to CGI.

Disciples III: Reincarnation

They took everything what's good in disciples 3 and entirely rebalanced it to make good disciples chapter and good game in general, they significantly improved writing and level design and they gave it for free for owners of both previous disciples 3 games.

Global strategy aspect is still lost, but now each individal battle is better than in disciples 2, so in the end it's on par with desciples 2.

There are still couple of wierd scripts and bugs here, but in general game runs totally fine and smooth, also works with nvidia surround.

It's a pity that dwarfwes, orks and merfolk expansions to the third game would never be made, there was also possibility for barbarians and bandits expansions.

Serious Sam: The Second Encounter

Serious Sam: The Second Encounter — 3 years worth of content.
On it’s own it’s much better and diverse than the first game. But if you played first one — it’s much much more of totally the same.

Works in UHD UWS with NVidia Surround after editing of the .ini file. Everything run nice, but if you take the sniper rifle it suddenly uses a different FoV outside of the scope.
Dynamic music is so tiresome. Instead of listening to a nice OST all i hear is a constant start\stop mish-mash of several tunes with no cohesive mood.

Nightmares from the Deep 2: The Siren`s Call

The second game picks up soon after the first story and it's basically more of the same. Morph animation is still bad, art-style is still good, puzzles are still fun, the story is still solid. And this time you kinda spend the entire game undercover running around a fish-people city.
