Painkiller: Redemption

Firstly, the engine and core are the same, so you have rhythm jumping, pleasant 150 FOV, climbing, shortcuts for shotgun and stakegun and the game looks good and clean.

First level is manageable hard, but then on the second level you got locked in two by two room with several hundreds of enemies, not much ammo and no health. So, might as well restart the game on story mode difficulty. And the brand new storier modier difficulty even rids you from collecting the souls, which wasn't a brilliant mechanic even in the original game. There are about a thousand enemies per level so you will turn into the demon every couple of minutes.
Outside of abysmal balance the level design itself is neat, tight, compact and without much exploration, with the so called "console" "games" school of thought. They are not very great to play on but okay to look at after you finished the level and all doors have opened.

I can't tell if there are new enemies, but there are no new guns at all. Though it kinda makes sense, considering that the story ties all three protagonists into the single storyline. There are just three cutscenes, but they are just rolling text with 2D pictures INTENSIFYING in the background. Overall this is another eight levels long late entry into the fra...

It's not as good as the original game, especially in level-design department (one level even is just slightly remade level from BOOH). But we have new toys (even if they are more like re-skins of our old toys), some new enemies, some new locations and same gameplay as in original. And these days we don't have enough of gameplay like that. This game made me realise how much i miss rhytm-jumping around the level and not be forced to press "E" everywhere.

Bosses now are almost straight-up damage soakers, but on the other hand puzzly bosses from originals, despite being somewhat interesting in concept, gave no clue what to do at all, unlike bosses in adventure-based games.

Story is more coherent than in originals, but narrative is even worse - main hero just trying to cosplay Duke Nukem with all pop-culture references and quotes.

In the end, you buy one - you get one. (And i needed one... or more.)

Also totally not working with nvidia surround, despite what said on WSGF.

Painkiller: Resurrection

This thing even greets you with the words "fun made product".

Firstly, the engine and core are the same, so you have rhythm jumping, pleasant 150 FOV, climbing, shortcuts for shotgun and stakegun and the game looks good and clean (that is, in the places where devs used textures and not blurry placeholders).
But it runs very poorly and has its share of bugs and crashes. When i reached haunted city it wouldn't load the level and i would just fall down into grey abyss. Fortunately, i forgot about it and when i launched the game next time it actually did load.
Next, the level design. It's an absolutely nonsensical mess, which would be somewhat fine if it wasn't stripping the player from progression agency. The levels are giant and long, but still, there are only 6-7 of them and they all poorly designed and balanced. It's a collection of narrow corridors assembled into giant labyrinths, while original had chain of fun medium sized arenas.
A lot of new enemies are just meat blobs. New weapon is a stakegun, again. I understand that stakegun is a iconic titular weapon of the franchise, but we already have it. And second one in BOOH. And an overdosed crossbow.
The worst part of it (yes, even worse than bugs) is the balance. It's a very short thing made by amateurs, so it's extremely difficult even on easy. Outside of high damage, there are immortal ghost which chase you and steal your HP. You can as well just give up and play on "story mode" difficulty, and even then you will be short on ammo on some levels. And with it you lose the second half of the gameplay — achievement hunting, gold management and tarrot cards.
Story is pretty generic, is told in lazy comics and has three endings, but no clear way towards any of them; and i can't even find any information on them. Barks of the protagonist are better than silence, but done poorly and get old very fast.

Well it's a bad one but it is doable. If you can more easily tolerate bad new experience than good but trivial ones — it exists.

Painkiller Expansion Pack: Battle Out of Hell

Честное дополнение "more of the same". Внешний вид оружия и местностей впечатляет, новые существа неплохи, но вот прохождение местностей иногда раздражает - в обычных играх быстро находят ошибки физического движка и используют их, здесь же весь физический движок одна ошибка, но при этом героя иногда заставляют прыгать над пропастями с высокой точностью. А игра даже на современных компьютерах загружается не быстро, поэтому умирать очень не хочется. Музыкальное сопровождение хорошо подходит игре, но теперь немного однообразно. Хорошо сделаны титры.

Painkiller

Сынок знаешь, ты тоже вот-вот кудесником станешь.
Отличный классический бессюжетный shooter. Сюжет собственно есть и задаёт антураж, но он так, "для галочки". Отличный хотя и немного безумный дизайн уровней и врагов, отличное оружие — особенно интересен коломёт. Проблемы тоже есть, интересные способы уничтожения боссов имеют обратную сторону медали - никаких подсказок. Оружия часто ведёт себя очень непривычно, например ракетница может делать "блинчики" вместо взрыва при столкновении. Прохождение игры на сто процентов требует невероятного "задротства", иначе это не назвать. Хорошоё, уместное звуковое сопровождение.
